To establish a distance learning system that would use diverse technologies to bring educational and instructional programming to underserved populations in isolated, rural Appalachia. The system would rely on Internet-based high bandwidth connectivity. The target areas would be Smyth and Floyd Counties and the New River Health Distict, all of which are in southwest Virginia. The instructional programming's two main themes would be (1) secondary and adult continuing education and (2) continuing medical education and public outreach.
