The application proposes a two-phase collaborative project to convert the facilities of WLAE and WYES to digital broadcasting. The application proposes 40% Federal funding for a project with a total cost of $4,471,100. The total Federal request is $1,788,440. For FY 2001, the applicant requests $933,640 to purchase the antenna, transmision line, STL, satellite demod and test equipment for the WLAE transmitter as well as the transmission line, transmitter, antenna upgrade, STL, satellite demod and test equipment for the WYES transmitter. For FY 2002, the applicant requests $854,800 for the new joint master control facility including a new tower, digital encoders, and test and related equipment. The two stations serve a population of 1,700,000 in the greater New Orleans area of Louisiana and Mississippi.
