To interconnect the newly-constructed Iowa Bioprocessing Training Center, Eddyville -- and, a larger sense, institutions throughout rural Walpello Co., in southeast Iowa -- to the Iowa Communications Network (ICN). The interconnection point would be Indian Hills Community College, Ottumwa. Eddyville is 16 miles from Ottumwa. The project would purchase and install the 16 miles of optical fiber. It would also install a fiber optic terminal room and an interactive classroom in the Training Center. Primarily, the project would allow for the dissemination of the instructional programming of the Iowa BioDevelopment and Bioprocess Technology Program to an estimated 100 receive sites, embracing both academic institutions and bioprocessing firms. The latter would be located in Iowa and in nearby Nebraska.
