The Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit (BVIU) has recognized that in order to best serve the educational needs of this diverse community that a shared technology platform linking each school, and in turn each students home, is a critical priority. The BVIU has been collaborating with the Beaver Initiative for Growth (BIG), a non-profit economic development agency. Big recently completed a detailed business case analysis showing a community and private service partner demand to deploy a broadband network in Beaver County. The broadband network would include Voice, Data and Video services offered at a highly competitively rate to education, business and residential users. The BVIU respectfully submits this application for a planning process with BIG. Collaboration allows both entities to concentrate on their core strengths of education and economic development respectively, while creating a cost effective model for rapid deployment of a telecommunications infrastructure. Our plan is to work together to facilitate the educational and economic advancement of the county.
